Society has developed since then. People look at comic strips on their smartphones rather than desktop browsers (if at all), drawing is largely done with digital tools like Procreate (as opposed to following the onerous process of scanning line art on paper and then coloring it digitally), and the rise of AI tools means that any hodad with a functioning keyboard can produce plasticy Batman fan art and proclaim they drew it (while I had to do all my swiping by looking at Dick Sprang pictures). I now draw myself with glasses and less hair, as my physical body has begun to sag, falter, and return to the soil.
But, in any case, I'm back to this blog and will post again, as I once did. Not sure what form it will take, but I've been through plenty (just like you) in recent years and need a viable creative outlet once more. Maybe I'll subscribe to my own RSS feed, as a form of self-motivation? See you around, as we galumph ahead together.November 20, 2025
Resuscitation
I started the Art in Haste blog (this one!) back in the far-flung year of 2005, primarily as a means of participating in the long-gone and much-missed Illustration Friday group blog project (missed by me, anyway). Back then I drew every day, using a variety of low-tech tools and means, and posted my pictures on Web 2.0 sites like deviantART, Flickr, Drunk Duck, Subvariance, and many, many other long-shuttered portals. At some point between then and now, I got frustrated, decided that I hated the way I drew, and deleted everything I posted prior to 2012. In the last five years I fell far, far out of the habit of drawing anything worth putting in front of other people.
